Make A Difference

Many of our residents achieve personal growth through giving to others. Ted Prochaska donated funds to create the centerpiece of The Alhambra grounds, the beautiful 'Prochaska Memorial Garden,' dedicated to the memory of his wife, his mother and his mother-in-law, each of whom enjoyed living here.

Jim and Nancy Swisher are a warm and welcoming couple who were each once employed at The Alhambra. When they retired, they didn’t go very far - they moved in as residents. Today, Jim and Nancy volunteer on several of the resident advisory committees. Jim and Nancy also volunteer two days a week in the Blossom, The Alhambra’s in-house gift store and soda fountain.

Hulda Biel is what you might call a volunteer’s volunteer.  Hulda has lived at The Alhambra for more than 14 years and has long been one of the community’s most gracious residents.  She is the treasurer of the Chapel Committee, was one of the first members of the Resident Assembly, has led the Crafts Committee and Morning Exercise Class.  Hulda touches the lives of every resident with her ‘Ribbons to Residents’ program, rewarding residents and staff with a blue ribbon when she observes an act of kindness or helpfulness. Hulda enjoys her life by helping others enjoy theirs.
